May 17, 2012 · 11:39 AM
Kym Hopen, Mrs. WA Plus America, is hosting a Zumbathon Friday to raise money for her trip to the national Pageant in Memphis, Tenn.
Hopen, of Bonney Lake, was crowned in February.
Hopen entered the contest, her first pageant, to compete with her daughter and because she hoped to lead by example and show her children it is never too late to try something new.
Hopen is a Practice Manager for a group of medical practices. She is a graduate of Sumner High School.
Hopen said she also entered to draw attention to her anti-bullying platform, a matter she said was close to her heart.
Contestants must raise money to compete in the national competition. Also in attendance will be Ms. WA Plus America Makela Steward and Miss WA Plus America Kristin Wood.
The Zumbathon is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at C&C Studio, 13701 24th St. E., Suite D4 in Sumner.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
