Six January activities from the Sumner Senior Center
If you're a member of the Sumner Senior Center, there's no shortage of center events and day trips to ring in the new year after January 1. The center will be closed on New Year's Day, but will open to normal hours on Jan. 2.
On Jan. 3, the center will host one of its regular day trips to the Red Wind Casino in Nisqually. The shuttle leaves the center at 9 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m.
On Jan. 8, members can compete to prove their mastery at the card table when the center hosts a pinochle tournament. Pinochle for fun is a mainstay of Tuesday afternoons at the center, but the 12:45 p.m. tournament will provide players a shot at the "title."
On Jan. 15, the center will have a 10:30 a.m. speaker to explain veteran's benefits to former members of armed service. The center will also have a class on basic Internet use at 1 p.m.
On Jan. 17, there will be a day trip to the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma. The trip begins at 1:30 p.m.
On Jan. 23, there will be a trip to LeMay America's Car Museum in Tacoma at 9:30 a.m. The museum, a four-story building at the center of a 9-acre campus, opened its doors in June 2012 and strives to pay homage to the evolution of American automobiles.
On Jan. 24, there will be a speaker leading a seminar on how to prevent falls and resulting injuries.
