Fresh produce available for seniors

Seniors can pick up $40 worth of fresh produce throughout the summer, courtesy of the Pierce County Farmers Market Voucher Program.

To qualify, seniors must be 60 or older, or 55 or older if Alaska Native or Native American, and earn a monthly income less than $1,669 or $2,246 for two persons. The vouchers are good at approved roadside produce stands and local farmers markets through Oct. 31.

Preregistration is available and voucher distributions will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 17 at the Sumner Senior Center, 253-863-2910 and from 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 29 at the Bonney Lake Senior Center, 253-863-7658.

The Sumner Senior Center is located at 15506 62nd St. Ct. E and the Bonney Lake Senior Center is at 19304 Bonney Lake Blvd.
