Buckley and Orting libraries participate in second Saturday family events

Many activities await families on the second Saturdays of each month, September through December, at Pierce County Libraries. Libraries will offer family-friendly films, holiday celebrations, musical and interactive puppet performances, lessons about orchid care,  the history of women quilters and buffalo soldiers.

Buckley Pierce County Library, 123 S. River Ave.

  • Saturday Morning at the Movies. Bring the entire family and watch a family-friendly film! Sept. 8, 11 a.m.
  • Author Peg Kehret. The award-winning, best-selling Buckley author will talk about her latest children’s book, “Animals Welcome.” First Saturday of the month. Oct. 6, 11 a.m.
  • Comedy Juggling. Experience a dynamic array of amazing stunts, physical comedy and audience participation with Alex Zerbe. Oct. 13, 11 a.m.
  • First Harvest. Ann Gibson, with Foothills Historical Museum, will share with families about Thanksgiving. Nov. 10, 11 a.m.
  • Puppets Please. Colorful animal marionettes-in-the-round sing, dance and chat with children in a holiday story time! Dec. 8, 12 p.m.
  • A Special Visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Santa and Mrs. Claus have left the North Pole early to visit with you! Dec. 8, 1 p.m.

Orting Pierce County Library, 202 Washington Ave. S.

  • Buffalo Soldiers. Explore their history, service and contributions with members of the local Buffalo Soldiers Museum. Fourth Saturday of the month. Sept. 22, 1 p.m.
  • Growing Orchids. Learn how to grow orchids, and receive a free orchid starter kit from the Tacoma Orchid Society. Third Saturday of the month. Registration required. Register online @ piercecountylibrary.org/calendar Oct. 20, 1 p.m.
  • Pioneer Quilts of the Oregon Trail. Art historian Susan Olds shares true stories of women quilters who braved the westward migration of the 1800s. Nov. 10, 1 p.m.
  • Gingerbread Houses. Create a holiday favorite. Third Saturday of the month. Registration required. Register online @ piercecountylibrary.org/calendar Dec. 15, 1 p.m.
