Come Walk With Me 5k is Oct. 9

A 5k walk for breast health is scheduled for Oct. 9 in Sumner.

Pre-registration for the Come Walk With Me event is open through Wednesday for a donation of $20 via goodsamfoundation.org.

After this, registration is available the day of the walk for $30.

Beth Brooks, event manager at Good Samaritan Foundation said volunteers are needed to assist during the event, which is intended to raise money for breast health awareness and early detection of illness.

"We provide the funds from our walk to our breast health programs," she said.

The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse is hosting the event, which Brooks said is a partnering with the Sumner Downtown Association and Good Samaritan Hospital.

After the 5k walk, a pancake breakfast is held at the furniture warehouse at around 10 or 10:30 a.m. The post-walk event features music and a silent auction, with proceeds benefitting the cause.

"Our hope is to establish free and reduced mammography program," Brooks said.

In keeping with the theme of breast health, the color pink is being displayed prominently and a pink dessert table from Girly Gatherings is being stocked with treats.

"The community's just eager to support breast health at a local level," she said.

Come Walk With Me begins at The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse at 13608 A Valley Ave. E. in Sumner Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.
