Work about to begin on Sumner’s parade float
January 17, 2011 · 2:32 PM
One of Sumner’s most popular events is set for April 9, which means it’s time for volunteers to get to work on the float for the Daffodil Parade.
A meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Windmill Gardens is an opportunity for people to gather and discuss the theme of the float and plans for its construction.
The float theme for 2011 is The Spirit of Adventure and features a Mount Rainier theme with outdoor activities incorporated, according to Ben DeGeode, the general manager of Windmill Gardens.
Hiking, skiing and rafting are some of the activities possibly being incorporated. A rhubarb field is planned as part of the design.
Windmill Gardens is at 5816 162nd Ave. E. For more information or to volunteer to help with the float, call 253-863-5843.
