The cost of garbage pickup is increasing in Sumner.

The city's contract with D.M. Disposal requires an annual cost adjustment of 80 percent of the consumer price index for the month of October. The CPI for the Seattle-Tacoma region is used in the calculation of the new garbage fee.

For October 2010 the CPI rose 0.4 percent in the area over the previous year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

To determine the cost of 2011 garbage service, call the city at 253-863-8300.
