Once a year in December, the Bonney Lake Police Department partners with the city's Target store to provide gift cards for children who need a little extra help.

The "Shop with a Cop" program lets kids, selected by their school counselors, ride in police cars and fire trucks to Target, where they go on a shopping spree replete with police escort.

And that's where people like you come in. The program survives on donations of cash or gift cards by everyday citizens. If you stop by Target today, from 4 to 7 p.m., look for Bonney Lake's finest and make a contribution to the program.

If you cannot make it to the store, but you would like to contribute, stop at the Bonney Lake Police Department any time during open hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Donations are being accepted through Dec. 9.

The police department is located at 18421 Sumner-Buckley Highway E.
