Panther student chefs take Second Place at state competition, win $100,000

Bonney Lake High School's Culinary Arts team took second place and nearly $100,000 in scholarships, at the state ProStart competition Saturday. The 12th Annual Boyd Coffee ProStart Invitational, a high school level competition in professional kitchen operation and restaurant management, was held at South Puget Sound Community College on Saturday.
Bonney Lake's culinary team included students Taylre Vaughan, Jordan Sherwood, Savannah Wilcoxson, Matt Yantzer and alternate Aaron Fischer. Teacher Kahale Ahina and mentor Eric Hellner led the team.
The winning menu was an appetizer of shrimp mousse with saffron aspic; Snake River Farms American Wagyu Filet Mignon for the main course; and a chocolate bombe for dessert.
The team will be able to exercise their scholarships at various culinary schools around the country.
