The Bonney Lake Police Department's Marine Service Unit will patrol Church Lake and Lake Tapps this weekend—starting today—in search of intoxicated boaters. The patrol is part of the Operation Dry Water emphasis, an annual campaign to enforce criminal under the influence laws on state waterways.

"The goal of this campaign is to prevent accidents, injuries and deaths from people operating boats while under the influence," read a press release from the department distributed yesterday afternoon. "By taking part in this campaign and adopting a zero tolerance enforcement policy, the Bonney Lake Police Department hopes boaters will decide to 'Boat Dry' and not operate any type of watercraft after consuming alcohol and/or drugs."
