Stage 1 county burn ban declared for Thursday

August 15, 2012 · Updated 12:17 PM

The Pierce County Fire Marshal has declared a countywide Stage 1 burn ban beginning 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, until further notice.

Prompted by forecasts for continued dry weather, the ban was declared in conjunction with the Pierce County Fire Chiefs Association and the state Department of Natural Resources.

A Stage 1 burn ban applies to all outdoor burning except for small recreational fires in established fire pits at approved campgrounds or private property with the owner's permission. The use of gas and propane self-contained stoves and barbecues is still allowed under this ban.

People with approved DNR burn permits are advised to call 800-323-BURN for more information.
