At the end of a gloomy weather day, the sun came out just in time for Sumner's Halloween Street of Treats 2012.

Trick-or-treaters of all ages gathered to mingle, watch ACT1 Theatre Productions' dancing scarecrows and, of course, to collect candy from the shops that kept their doors open into the evening.

Sumner Downtown Association and Sumner Downtown Merchants host Street of Treats annually as a safer alternative to neighborhood trick-or-treating. The city closes off the roads to create a zone free of automobile traffic, a serious cause of injury and death on Halloween nights nationwide.

The event was popularly attended (and suddenly. A Sumner police officer providing security for the event commented, "First, there's no one here, then suddenly everyone's here.").
