Gas leak closes Main Street, forces evacuations Wednesday; all roads re-opened by morning commute

November 29, 2012 · 10:50 AM

East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters responded to a gas line break at the intersection of state Route 410 and Main Street East in Bonney at 4:30 p.m.

Construction crews working on road improvements accidentally hit the 2-inch gas line. Bonney Lake Police Department closed state Route 410 and Main Street E to secure the area.

As a precaution, occupants of a daycare, the Bonney Lake Justice Center and nearby offices were evacuated to the Bonney Lake library.  Residents of an apartment complex were asked to shelter in place.

Puget Sound Energy crews stopped the leak just before 8 p.m.

State Route 410 reopened after being closed nearly one and a half hours. Main Street East remained closed while the gas line was repaired, but was re-opened in time for the morning commute.

No injuries were reported.
