Buckley market debuts Saturday

The Plateau Saturday Market makes its debut Saturday in Buckley and Assistant Manager Vicky Watkins notes that everyone involved in the months of planning are very excited about the maiden voyage.

The market will set up in the expansive, grassy area between Jefferson Street and Ryan Road across the street from the new Buckley Youth Center.

“So far we have about a dozen booths that will be featuring a variety of items, ranging from crafts and plants to baked goods and jewelry,” Watkins said, adding her appreciation for the welcoming attitude of businesses in the community, who seem to be embracing the idea.

“We went around to all the stores in Buckley and asked if we could put up flyers in their shop windows and they were all more than happy to comply,” she said. “The next step is to do the same in Enumclaw and Bonney Lake to let the people in those towns know that everyone is welcome.”

Watkins said organizers will be trying to set up activities for the kids and they are still searching for an individual or organization to sponsor entertainment during the market, which will operate each Saturday between May 31 to August 20. Meanwhile, musicians are welcomed to stop by and collect tips, with the normal booth fee of $10 being waived.

Market lovers should keep their eyes peeled for the giant banners clearly visible from state Route 410 that will be appearing days before the big event.
