Primary election gives voters choices

The primary election is right around the corner and several races are waiting to be decided for the general election ballot.

Aug. 21 is election day and mail-in ballots have already been sent out. Mail-in ballots can be dropped off at the Express Booth from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Aug. 17 at the Bonney Lake Fred Meyer, 20901 State Route 410.

There are two City Council races on the ballot, although four seats are up for election. Only races with three or more candidates will be decided in the primary election. The two candidates with the most votes move to the general election ballot Nov. 6.

At Large No. 2 will be on the primary ballot with a choice between incumbent Mark A. Hamilton and challengers Jessica Larios and Tom Watson.

The Ward No. 4 seat will also be on the primary ballot with incumbent Phil DeLeo facing challengers Dan Decker, Michael Armanious and Vicki Karuzas.

Area voters will choose two for the Port of Tacoma Position No. 3. Running for the seat are Bonney Lake resident Dave Hyres, Bill Casper from DuPont, Don Johnson from Tacoma, Paul Carroll, also from Tacoma, Puyallup resident David W. Lovell and Jerry Thorpe of Tacoma.

Fire Protection District No. 22 has four candidates. The candidates are Raymond R. Bunk III from Bonney Lake, Patrick A. Claffey, also a Bonney Lake resident, Dick Willner from Buckley and Lake Tapps resident Roger E. Coleman Jr.
