South Prairie fire consumes a mobile home Saturday morning

Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a fire Saturday morning at 217th Avenue East and 130th Street East.
When the first units arrived, a single-wide mobile home was fully involved in flames. Officials at the scene said there was evidence the fire had been burning for some time before neighbors noticed the smoke and called 9-1-1.
“It was gone by the time we got here,” said Lt. Trevor Dunbar from East Pierce Fire and Rescue.
According to Assistant Chief Russ McCallion, the property had recently been purchased and the new owners were in the process of demolishing the mobile home.
Debris both inside and outside the home fueled the fast moving flames. No one was in the residence at the time of the fire.
Three engines from East Pierce and one from the Sumner Fire Department responded to the call. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to neighboring homes.
The Pierce County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
