The Mountain View Junior High varsity and junior varsity girls fastpitch team participated in a charitable fund-raiser May 21 event that carried on a seven-year tradition.

The event was meant to raise money and awareness for muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The group included 18 girls and two coaches.

The Lady Wolves went to Cheney Stadium in Tacoma and retrieved balls thrown on the field by Harley Davidson Club members. The girls gave the ball back to the members who donated money to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

During the Tacoma Rainiers' game the girls took boxes of baseballs and went throughout the stadium asking the fans for donations for muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research in exchange for a baseball.

In less than two hours the team collected $750. Fans paid anywhere from $1 to $25 for a baseball.

Coach Loretta Fulk contacted the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was able to arrange the event.

The coach has a particular interest in MDA because her two grandsons, ages 7 and 2, have Duschene muscular dystrophy.
