Christmas tree permits on sale today for national forest land

Permits for cutting personal-use Christmas trees within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest will go on sale today (Wednesday).
Permits for selecting and removing a tree from the National Forest will be available for $10 each, and trees cut must be no more than 12 feet tall. Maps and information about cutting areas will be provided at the time permits are sold. Cutting areas are within National Forest lands in the eastern portions of Pierce, King, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties.
Quantities are limited, so it is a good idea to call ahead before making a trip to a sales outlet. Christmas tree sales will end December 23.
Getting your tree early before the snow falls usually means better access on Forest Service roads as well. Most trees are accessible only by narrow, unplowed mountain roads. High-clearance vehicles are often essential along with tire chains and a shovel. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and let friends or relatives know where you are going and when to expect you back.
