White River High School's first American Cancer Society Relay For Life fund raiser was deemed a success Saturday after the festivities closed out around noon. The 18-hour walk brought in around 15 teams and raised close to $25,000, which was the organizers' goal. American Cancer Society Relationship Manager Michelle Van Hoff said it was a great first effort. Even damp weather conditions didn't scare away participants or survivors who started the walk off Friday evening with a cancer survivor lap. Later, in the twilight hours, the track was lined with luminaries paying tribute to those who have been lost to cancer or those who are still fighting. Auburn DECA was the top individual team fund raiser, bringing in $5,571. White River Honor Society earned more than $2,000. Money raised through Relay for Life events goes for cancer research. Enumclaw will host its third annual Relay For Life Aug. 15 and 16 at Thunder Mountain Middle School. Team slots are still available. For more information contact Van Hoff at 800-729-3880 or Kathleen Edwards 360-802-9227.
