Enumclaw Mayor John Wise and Meghan Atkinson tossed the ceremonial first shovels of dirt Saturday, as the city of Enumclaw planted a redwood sequoia in honor of Arbor Day. Meghan, a fifth-grader at Southwood Elementary, received honorable mention in a statewide Arbor Day poster contest. Her entry was judged to be among the top five in a field of more than 800 entries. Enumclaw recently became the 51st city in Washington to be noted as a Tree City USA. The tree was planted in front of the Enumclaw swimming pool.
