Sumner man killed in one-car accident on State Route 167
A Sumner man was killed after the car he was traveling in left the highway and slammed into a tree June 10.
Washington State Patrol reported Michael J. McGowan, 26, died at the scene. The accident happened on state Route 167, just south of the state Route 512 junction about 7:45 p.m.
McGowen was riding in a 1992 Acura coupe that was traveling southbound on SR 167.
The driver, a 46-year-old Federal Way man, was booked into the Pierce County Jail June 11 on suspicion of vehicular homicide. He was treated at the scene then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, according to troopers.
The driver is under investigation for vehicular homicide, WSP reported.
The accident slowed down traffic on the southbound lanes of SR 167 and the eastbound lane of SR 512 on-ramp to southbound 167. All lanes were reopened at 11:45 p.m.
