Buckley couple receives achievement award

Raul and Dorothy Espino of Buckley was honored with the Daisy Stallworth Achievement Awards for their community organizing efforts and foster parenting.
Additional awards in three other categories were presented during the annual Daisy Stallworth Memorial Awards program Thursday at Sprinker Recreation Center.
Bob and Guadalupe Hamilton of Orting will also receive Achievement Awards as heroic grandparents and supporters of their local Family Support Center.
The other awards and winners were:
• Violence Prevention: Peninsula School District, Evergreen Elementary, Terry Bouck, superintendent, Jacque Crisman, principal, and Julie Kreis, site coordinator.
• Community Services: Borders Book and Music (Tacoma), Jesse Duran, operations manager; South Tacoma Glass, Guy Hemley, owner; and Canterbrook Village Apartments, Lonnie Slaughter, manager.
• Community Development: Washington Women’s Employment and Education, Robin Lester, CEO and Debi LaFleur, project manager.
The awards event was created in memory of Pierce County Community and Human Services Executive Director Daisy M. Stallworth following her death due to cancer in 1997 at age 57.
