A Sumner man was booked into Pierce County Jail after a two-car collision Friday at the intersection of state Route 410 and Mundy Loss Road.

Vernon T. Pitts, 52, was arrested for vehicular assault.

Pitts was driving eastbound on SR 410 in his 1985 Chevrolet when he ran a red light and struck a 1995 Mazada sedan driven by 62-year-old Alice M. Salonka of Buckley.

Salonka was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, along with passenger Sidney J. Lehn, 87, also of Buckley.

Another passenger in the Mazda, Wayne Salonka, 62, of South Prairie, was not injured.

The collison ripped the driver side door off the Mazda.

The accident about noon Friday and disrupted traffic for a couple of hours.
