The Washington State Auditor’s Office completed its annual financial and accountability audit for East Pierce Fire and Rescue, declaring no major findings or issues to address.

The auditors looked at internal controls and department policies and procedures to make sure East Pierce personnel were adhering to the legal bidding processes, providing prevailing wages and were in general compliance with all state laws and regulations.

“We have a long history of having very clear audits,” East Pierce Fire Chief Jerry Thorson said. “We’ve never had a finding or management letter, that’s pretty good for a fire department.”

The State Auditor’s Office serves the citizens of the state by promoting accountability, fiscal integrity and openness in state and local government. Working with the fire department, auditors help to ensure the efficient and effective use of public resources.

Citizens may view audit reports by going to www.sao.wa.gov and searching under Pierce County Fire District No. 22.
