It's assessment season in the Sumner School District. See the schedule here.
March 9, 2010 · 6:18 PM
Every spring, the state tests all students in grades 3-8 and grade 10 to measure progress towards meeting standards.
This spring the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) will be replaced by two new tests: the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) in grades 3-8 and the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE). High school students will be tested in reading and writing March 16-18, and in science and math April 13 and 15.
All testing begins at 7:35 a.m. Buses will pick up high school students on the 7:35 a.m. start time schedule on all testing days.
There will be no Wednesday late start for high school only on Wednesday, March 17. Middle schools and elementary schools will follow the regular Wednesday 90-minute late start school schedule and bus schedule.
All ninth-grade students will be required to be in school for regular classes.
Tenth grade students are required to be in attendance for state testing.
Eleventh and Twelfth grade students who have not met the Reading, Writing, and/or Math requirement must attend for testing in each respective subject.
Special needs students will be transported on 7:35 a.m. start time schedule for all five testing days despite their state assessment status.
Students who have already met standard on the state assessment and are not testing, will need to arrive for a 10:15 a.m. start time and will need to find their own transportation to school. Supervised study hall opportunities and Senior Project work space will be available for students who report to school at the 7:35 a.m. start time.
