31st voters go with incumbents

After months of campaigning, voters finally had their say last week and despite a national trend to the contrary, sent several incumbents from the 31st Legislative District back to Olympia to represent them for another term.

In what was one of the most talked-about races in the region, Sen. Pam Roach had little trouble holding onto her seat in the 31st Legislative District, defeating challenger Matt Richardson in what became one of the most bitterly-fought races in the state.

Don't forget to vote on Nov. 2

After months of campaigning, it’s finally time to stop hearing from the candidates and start hearing from the voters.

Election Day is Tuesday, meaning all mail-in ballots must be postmarked by the end of the day or deposited in one of the 20 ballot drop sites set up but the Auditor’s office. Ballot drop boxes lock at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Pierce County is also the last county in Washington to offer polling place elections. The county will open 56 polling places on Tuesday.

31st District Democrats clarify endorsements

It appears not all of the Democrats in the 31st District are ready to throw their support behind incumbent Sen. Pam Roach.

Following on the heels of an unexpected endorsement of Roach by “Independent Democrat” Rep. Chris Hurst, former Roach opponent Yvonne Ward and former 31st statehouse candidate Karen Willard, the 31st Legislative District Democrats have issued a press release of their own making it clear that the trio of candidates were speaking for themselves and not the party.

“... Members of the executive board of the 31st L.D. Democrats wish it known that we do not endorse Pam Roach or any Republican,” reads the Oct. 1 release. “We are at a loss as to why any declared Democrat or ‘Independent Dem’ would do so.”
