The Rainier Junior Rugby Club recently polished off an outstanding season, the best overall showing since the club's inception in 2008. The program includes students from Enumclaw, White River, Bonney Lake, Sumner and Orting.

A pair of Sumner Spartans – Preston Fullington and Nathan Harrell – found themselves east of the mountains over the weekend, participating in the all-state baseball series.

The spring season provided a bountiful harvest of honors and accolades for high school teams and individual athletes in the area. In both the Class 3A and Class 2A ranks, accomplishments were many and varied at Enumclaw, Bonney Lake, White River and Sumner. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.

Local golfers compete at state meets | 2016 state golf results

Enumclaw High placed third and Bonney Lake was fifth during last week’s boys Class 3A state golf tournament. A healthy sampling of golfers from the four area high schools had traveled east of the mountains for both the Class 3A and 2A tournaments, contested on May 24-25.

Commitment and a passion for the game; Jake Jackson takes over as Sumner High boys basketball coach

Great influences, growing up and experiences are what helped one basketball coach figure out what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Jake Jackson, 29, has wanted to be a basketball coach since he was just a little kid. He said at first, he wanted to coach for the NBA, but with time and maturing he soon realized he wanted to coach high school basketball instead.
