On to state; prep athletes throughout the area ready for biggest stage

Out of the three teams that went on to state baseball, only Sumner has made it to the top four. Enumclaw fastpitch defeated Sumner, and the Spartan soccer team also fell. Several dozen Bonney Lake and Sumner track athletes and golf players are also heading to state.

Local athletes rolling into postseason; state baseball awaits Enumclaw, Bonney Lake and Sumner

The Class 3A state baseball tournament will have great representation from the local area, as all three area clubs qualified for the 16-team field. The state tourney will be played out over the next two weekends, with games on May 21 played at regional sites and the Final Four slated for May 27-28 at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

After defeating North Thurston 4-0, the Spartans need just one victory to qualify for the Class 3A state tournament. The deciding game is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Highline Stadium.
