Kahne released from driving duties with Richard Petty Motorsports

Kasey Kahne has been released from his driving duties with Richard Petty Motorsports effective immediately.

In a press release, RPM noted Aric Almirola will pilot the No. 9 Budweiser Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sunday at Virginia's Martinsville Speedway.

Driver line-up beyond Martinsville is to be determined.

Reports from other sources are stating Kahne will drive Almirola's ride, the Red Bull No. 83 Toyota Sunday. Kahne is scheduled to drive for Red Bull next season before replacing veteran driver Mark Martin for Hendrick Motorsports in 2012.
