SHS WRESTLING: Spartan grapplers go to 2-0

New Sumner High wrestling coach Matt Harshman apparently has his young grapplers buying what he is selling, because a Spartan group that didn’t win a single league match last season upped its South Puget Sound League 2A mark to 2-0 last week when it beat formidable Franklin Pierce 43-30.

The Spartans received victories at 103 pounds from freshman Travis Filleau, 3-1; 125-pounder Markus Forhan, 5-2; 160-pounder Jared Schliesman, 9-3; and 171-pounder Matthew Wilson, 11-3.

Pins were registered by 130-pounder Jed Schliesman in the second round, Tyler Hidalgo in the first round and Drew Caset at 189 in the third round.

The Spartans also collected a number of forfeits to hel[ build the margin of victory.
