Sumner High's fastpitch team played a two-win, one-loss weekend.

On Friday, the Spartans defeated Clover Park twice in a double header. First they played to an 18-1, then 25-0 in a game that invoked the mercy rule and ended in five innings.

Kaylee Cline made three hits out of four at-bats and batted in two runs. She hit one single and two doubles.

Nicolle Peterson hit two out of five at-bats, batting in two runs. She hit one single and one double.

On the mound, Allie Sims threw one walk and 11 strikeouts.

On Saturday, the Spartans lost 4-1 to the White River Hornets. Both teams hit their first run in the fourth inning, but the Hornets proved they had staying power with two runs in the fifth and a clincher in the sixth.

Still, Sims threw seven strikeouts on the mound, and Brittany Biller made one hit out of three at-bats, and batted in one run.

Darby Kenyon made four catches out of right field.

"She had such a great energy and was carrying the team the entire game," coach Kristin Crawley said.

The Spartans next play the Hornets on Thursday.
