The Bonney Lake Panthers won the 2012 Sunset Bowl 28-21, marking the team's second consecutive win over the Sumner Spartans.
The Panthers came out the gate strong, with three touchdowns in the first quarter, each followed by a successful field goal. They picked up another touchdown and kick before halftime,
Meanwhile, the Spartans earned two touchdowns, flubbing a field goal following the first touchdown, and succeeded at a two-point conversion following the second.
The Panthers would not score another point in the second half, but they didn't need to.
The third quarter saw Bonney Lake maintain possession of the ball the better part of the quarter. Defense stonewalled the Spartans when they had possession, and offense pushed the line of scrimmage deep into Sumner territory.
The Spartans came back in the fourth quarter, taking a touchdown and successful field goal with 7:21 left on the clock.
But the Panther wall struck again for the remainder of the game. When they managed an interception with 17.8 seconds on the clock, the crowd new it was all over.
