The Bonney Lake Panthers got a pair of touchdowns in the air and a pair on the ground to match on their way to a 28-14 victory over Decatur in the school's Homecoming Game Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium.
Decatur scored first on an 18-yard run, but the Panthers answered back with a 40 yard pass from quarterback Chris Brown to Zach Zaragosa. The Gators blocked the extra point attempt to hang on to a slim 7-6 lead and then tacked on another touchdown off a nine-yard run to head into halftime with a 14-6 lead.
But that was all they would get as the Panther defense stiffened in the second half and the offense came alive.
Brown again connected with Zaragosa for an 11-yard touchdown and E.J. Harris converted the two point attempt to tie the game at 14. Then Ethan McElderry took a handoff in from five yards out to give the Panthers the lead, though again Decatur blocked the extra point attempt to end the quarter 20-14, Panthers.
The Panthers kept the offense rolling in the fourth quarter with a nine-yard run from Harris, who then took the ball for the two-point conversion.
The wing brings Bonney Lake to an overall record of 2-4, with a 1-1 record in the South Puget Sound League 3A.
Bonney Lake takes on the Enumclaw Hornets Friday at Sunset Chev.
