Undefeated streak broken in two meets | Sumner Swim and Dive

After going unbeaten in their first eight meets this year, the Sumner girls swim team ran into a little trouble this week, dropping dual meets to both Enumclaw and Fife.

But on a high note, Spartan swimmer Madison Munger posted a state qualifying time for the 100 breast stroke during Tuesday's meet, meaning she is now an "Ironman" as she has qualified for every individual event this season.

But Munger's swim was not enough for the Spartans, who dropped their first meet of the season 108-67. From the opening event, the 200 medley relay, the Hornets took an early lead and never looked back.

Thursday's meet with Fife was closer, with the Spartans losing by four points after finishing two seconds behind the Trojans in the final event, the 400 free relay.

The Spartans were ahead 87-84 headed into the final event, but Fife's first and third-place finishes gave them 10 points to Sumner's 4, putting them over the top.

The Spartans final meet is Tuesday against Steilacoom. If the Spartans win, they will finish in a tie with Fife for first place in the South Puget Sound League 2A.
