It was an up and down week for the Bonney Lake Panther volleyball squad as the team dropped a match to Enumclaw Tuesday, but got a victory against the Hornets when it mattered Saturday to win the South Puget Sound League 3A subdistrict tournament championship.
The regular season came to a close Oct. 23 as Enumclaw squeaked by Bonney Lake 26-24 in the first game of their match and then won game two 25-20, before Bonney Lake was able to pick up a 25-20 win of their own. But the momentum fell short as Enumclaw came back in the fourth game to win 25-20 and take the match.
Taylor Moss had 14 kills and 11 digs and Lisa Demick had 12 kills and 18 digs in the loss to Enumclaw. Ashtyn Bagby added 35 assists in the match.
On Saturday, the Panthers got their postseason started with a 3-2 win against Kennedy Catholic to advance to a championship rematch with Enumclaw, who bested Auburn Mountainview 3-0 in their semi-final match.
No statistics were available for the tournament.
Bonney Lake advances to Friday's district tournament as the No. 1 seed. They will play the winner of the Kennedy Catholic - Woodrow Wilson matchup. The district champion will be crowned Saturday.
