Spartans beat Yelm; return

Mike Orphan scored three goals, including one unassisted, to lead Sumner High past Yelm 4-2 in nonleague soccer action April 1 in Yelm.
It was the first loss of the season for the Tornadoes.
Sumner built a 3-0 lead in the first 47 minutes of play. Orphan scored his first goal 17 minutes into the contest off a Dan Gunstone assist. He scored an unassisted goal 18 minutes later as the Spartans took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Orphan scored his final goal in the 47th minute before the Tornadoes, who reached the state tournament last season, scored twice in a two-minute span as brothers Daniel and Miguel Gonzales each scored to trim the lead.
Sumner’s Martin Schmuck scored an insurance goal with a minute remaining in the contest.
Sumner hosts Enumclaw Friday in a Class 3A South Puget Sound League game and faces Capital Tuesday in a nonleague contest.
