Bonney Lake High clinched a spot in the upcoming subdistrict baseball tournament with a 6-4 win over rival Sumner Friday in South Puget Sound League 3A play.

With the win, the Panthers claimed the No. 4 spot in the league and will play the No. 4 team from the Seamount League Friday at Auburn Mountainview for the No. 7 and 8 entries, respectively, into the West Central District tournament. Win or lose, they will play Tuesday at Auburn Mountainview against either the No. 9 seed (SPSL or Seamount No. 5) or the Southwest No. 3 seed.

Friday, Bonney Lake scored five runs in the fourth and added another in the top of the seventh to defeat Sumner. Two runs came in as results of walks off Sumner pitchers.

The Panthers finished with seven hits and Dylan Brown picked up the win for Bonney Lake.

Bonney Lake and White River combined for 21 hits as the Panthers dropped a 5-3 game Thursday in SPSL 3A action at home.

The Hornets took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning before Bonney Lake trimmed the lead by one with three runs in the fourth.

White River added an insurance run in the fifth.

Jake Sogolow had a pair of hits and three RBIs for Bonney Lake, while Derek Fugere took the loss on the mound. Fugere pitched five innings and gave up seven hits.

The Panthers started last week with a 10-0 win at home against Clover Park.
