Bonney Lake High claimed its first South Puget Sound League 3A girls soccer championship Thursday with a 3-1 win over district-rival Sumner at Panther Field.

Bonney Lake finished the season 7-0-1 in league and 12-1-2 overall.

The Panthers will play Kennedy Catholic, the Seamount League champions, in subdistrict action at 7:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Sunset Chev Stadium.

The winner will be the SPSL/Seamount No. 1 seed into the West Central District tournament, while the loser advances as the No. 2 seed.

Sumner, the SPSL’s No. 4 team, will face Seamount No. 4 Hazen at 5:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Renton Stadium.

The winner moves to West Central District play as the SPSL/Seamount No. 7 seed, and the loser is SPSL/Seamount No. 8.

The West Central District tournament will be played Saturday at various locations.

Against the Spartans in the regular season finale, the Panthers’ Savanna Moorehouse scored off a Jenny Dewitz assist for a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute of play.

Ten minutes later, Brianna Jones made it 2-0 on a Haylie Cannon assist.

Sumner cut the lead in half in the 25th minute on Kaylie Halloway’s goal.

Halloway was given a red card before the first half ended and will not play in the Spartans’ next game in the subdistrict tournament.

Dewitz recorded her second assist of the night as Beverly Kobe hit a goal in the 65th minute.
