GIRLS SOCCER SUBDISTRICT: Bonney Lake hands Kennedy first loss of the season; Sumner falls to Hazen

Bonney Lake took the South Puget Sound League/Seamount 3A subdistrict No. 1 seed with a 1-0 shootout win Nov. 4 at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

With the win, the Panthers have a chance to be the West Central District III/Southwest District IV top seed if they defeat Peninsula, the SPSL/Seamount No. 9 team on Nov. 7 at Highline Stadium in Des Moines. Game time is 3 p.m.

Earlier this season, the Panthers shutout Peninsula, 3-0, in SPSL 3A action.

Against Kennedy, the Panthers fought the No. 2-ranked Lancer to a scoreless tie in regulation and in double overtime.

In the first round of penalty kicks for the Panthers, Haylie Cannon, Brianne Jones, Savanna Moorehouse, Beverly Kobe and Carly Mingo drilled all five attempts as both teams tied.

In the second round, Jenny Dewitz and Alicia Bowman scored, as Kennedy's Dee Dee Green missed with Rendi Johnson at goalkeeper.

It was the first loss for Kennedy this season.

SPSL No. 4 Sumner, lost to Seamount No.4 Hazen, 2-1, Nov. 4 at Renton Memorial Stadium. The Spartans will go to district as the SPSL/Seamount No. 8 seed and play the Olympic/Western Cascade No. 1 team, Capital, 1 p.m. at Sound Sound Stadium.

Another area team, SPSL No. 2 Enumclaw, edged Lindbergh, 2-1, before the Bonney Lake-Kennedy game at Sunset. The Hornets, the subdistrict No. 3 seed will face Columbia River, the Southwest No. 3 team, at 3 p.m. Nov. 7 at Sunset. The winner is the district's No. 5 seed in the state tournament.
