Bonney Lake High captured the South Puget Sound League 3A soccer championship for the first time and begins postseason play tonight, Wednesday.
With a league mark of 7-0-1, the Panthers edged out the 7-1-0 Franklin Pierce Cardinals for the league title.
As SPSL 3A champions, the Panthers will take on Mount Rainier, the top team from the Seamount League. Tonight’s game begins at 7:30 at Highline Stadium in Burien. Tonight’s winner advances as the No. 1 seed to the West Central District tournament and plays at 3 p.m. Saturday, again at Highline Stadium. Should the Panthers lose tonight, they will take the No. 2 seed and play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Highline.
The Panthers wrapped up the regular season Friday against district rival Sumner and claimed a 3-0 victory.
The Panthers jumped on top early with Bryant Maxey scoring just four minutes into the contest. Tim Knowles scored at 37 minutes on a penalty kick and Aaron Quevedo added a goal at 43 minutes. Alex Hall earned the shutout in goal.
